Another Assam Civil Service official, Rumi Saikia surrenders herself on Monday after being on hide out since November 8 when the Assam police began a crackdown in the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) cash-for-job scam.
Rumi Saikia, a 2013 batch officer, was posted as the circle official of Bengtol revenue circle in Chirang district. The court has sent her to 14 days’ police custody.
Until now, a total of 23 ACS and APS officers have been apprehended, including the son of former Congress minister Nilamoni Sen Deka.
The police have arrested those officials after finding anomalies in the answer scripts and signatures of invigilator/scrutiniser after conducting forensic tests.
Two more accused officials, ACS officer Nisha Moni Deka and APS officer Rakesh Gupta, are still at large.
Police launched a crackdown of APSC officials after a complaint was lodged by a job aspirant, Anshumita Gogoi at Dibrugarh police in October 2016. She had stated that one Nabakanta Patir, an engineer, had offered her a job in Assam Civil Service if she paid him Rs 10 lakh. The police caught Patir red-handed while taking cash from her which led to arrests of several other officials.
